Eating Healthier: Why Switch to Organic Foods?

When some people think of organic foods, they get an impression that there is something natural added to the components that make them healthier or that the composition comprises of herbal substitutes. While some organic alternatives to certain products embrace the use of natural herbs, such as cleaning products, foods don't have to consist of materials other than what they truly are. For instance, some believe the eating tofu as opposed to beef is organic eating. In reality, both could be organic. Switching to organic is not the same as becoming a vegetarian.

In essence, organic foods are developed by using natural means for growing and cultivation. Instead of toxic pesticides, organic compounds are used to repel the bugs. Instead of hormone injected beef, cows are fed naturally with grass and regular feed. What constitutes organic is in the preparation of the material you are about to consume. Although there is nothing wrong with the health benefits of soy, you don't need to switch from natural cow's milk as long as unnatural methods are not used in the cow itself.

According to a study funded by the European Union, organic fruits and vegetables were found to have up to 50-percent more antioxidants. As these antioxidants are used by the body to combat a variety of diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia, the natural development of these edibles can greatly decrease the chances of your body developing such ailments. Antioxidants are also used to prevent a long list of cancers, and consuming these organic alternatives could provide a brighter future as you age.

Another aspect of organic foods is the difference in taste. Unlike materials that have been soaked by pesticides and sprays, foods prepared naturally have a more robust taste to them. In the case of onions, you'll never smell nor taste a more poignant vegetable as you cut slices or peel back the layers. If you feel up to conducting your own experiment, cut up an organic onion and one that is not the next time you cook. The difference between the two is staggering.

Foods that are not prepared organically can affect the water supply as well. Chemicals that are absorbed by the soil eventually make their way into the water table. Although some areas have treatment plants that attempt to rid the water supply of these toxins, it can be disconcerting to realize that you are drinking those compounds any time you turn on the faucet.

Eating organic foods doesn't mean you turn away from meats or that you need to dress in tie-died shirts and grow a beard. It's simply a way to eat healthier without including the unnatural additives that are given to various products in order to make them grow faster and fuller.
